Getting started
How do you make a Sia Wallet?
Download Sia Wallet v2.12.0 from the Download page for your operating system. Run the installer. On first launch, choose 'Create a new wallet.' The wizard generates a 12-word BIP39 seed — write it down on paper, in order, and confirm three random words back. Set a password. Your wallet is ready to receive Siacoin. Total time: about three minutes.
How do I install Sia Wallet on Windows, macOS, or Linux?
Pick your platform binary on the Download page: siawallet-2.12.0.exe for Windows, siawallet-2.12.0.dmg for macOS, siawallet-2.12.0.zip for Linux. Double-click to install. The first-run wizard walks you through wallet creation or seed import in about two minutes.
Do I need to sync the whole Siacoin blockchain?
No. Sia Wallet starts in lite mode by default. Lite mode queries verified Sia consensus nodes for balance and transaction data — keys stay on your device. First launch to first send is under 60 seconds. If you need full-node mode for hosting, mining, or independent verification, it's a single toggle in Advanced Settings and requires 256 GB of free disk.
Downloads
Is siawallet.tech the official Sia Wallet domain?
Yes. Sia Wallet is hosted at siawallet.tech. Several older domains use the 'Sia Wallet' name — only siawallet.tech are this project.
Where should I download Sia Wallet from?
Download only from siawallet.tech/download. These are the two official mirrors. Do not download Sia Wallet from third-party software aggregators — they are slower to update and may distribute outdated versions.
Is siawallet.com the same as Sia Wallet?
No. siawallet.com is not operated by this project. Several domains use the 'Sia Wallet' name. Only siawallet.tech are official project sources. Always start from siawallet.tech.
Safety and trust
Is Sia Wallet safe?
Sia Wallet is open source under the MIT licence. The full source code is public at siawallet.tech. Your keys are generated locally and never leave your device — the wallet is non-custodial, meaning nobody but you can access your funds. That said, self-custody is a trade-off: if you lose your 12-word seed phrase and your password, your funds cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.
Has Sia Wallet been audited?
The underlying Sia consensus code and walletd core are maintained by The Sia Foundation with audit history on sia.tech. Sia Wallet's consumer UI layer has not yet had a paid independent audit — one is planned within 12 months of the v2.12.0 launch. The source is public and reviewable at siawallet.tech in the meantime.
Is Sia Wallet a scam?
No. Sia Wallet is open source at siawallet.tech, distributed at siawallet.tech, and is a fork of walletd — the reference Sia wallet from the Sia Foundation. The source code is auditable by anyone. Sia Wallet is non-custodial: keys are generated and stored locally on your device, the project never asks for your seed phrase, and the binaries are signed and reproducible from the public repository.
Who builds Sia Wallet?
Sia Wallet is an independent MIT-licensed fork of walletd, the reference Sia wallet from The Sia Foundation. It is built and maintained by contributors listed in the public CONTRIBUTORS file at siawallet.tech. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by The Sia Foundation.
Legacy seed migration
My 28-word Sia-UI seed doesn't work — what do I do?
Sia v2 replaced legacy 28 and 29-word seeds with 12-word BIP39 phrases. Your old seed hasn't stopped working as a seed — it still derives your legacy address. Use Sia Wallet's built-in migration assistant: paste your 28-word seed, the assistant shows your legacy balance, generates a new 12-word seed, and walks the funds transfer in one flow.
How do I move from Sia-UI to Sia Wallet?
Install Sia Wallet v2.12.0. Pick 'Restore or migrate' on the welcome screen. Select 'Legacy Sia-UI seed.' Enter your 28 or 29-word phrase. The assistant shows your balance, generates a new 12-word seed, confirms your backup, and broadcasts the migration transaction. Six confirmations later your funds are in the new wallet. Full walkthrough on the Migration Guide page.
Is my legacy seed safe during migration?
Yes. The seed never leaves your machine. It is held in memory only for the duration of the migration — the time needed to derive your address and sign the outbound transaction — and is zeroed from RAM when the flow completes. The assistant writes nothing to disk in plaintext. The source code for this path is public at siawallet.tech.
Hardware wallets (Ledger)
Does Sia Wallet work with Ledger?
Yes. Ledger Nano S and Nano X are supported natively over USB and Bluetooth — no browser flags required. Install the Sia app on your Ledger once via Ledger Live, plug in the device, unlock with your PIN, and Sia Wallet detects it. Transactions are constructed on the desktop, displayed on the Ledger for confirmation on-device, and broadcast. Private keys never leave the hardware wallet.
Why doesn't the Sia app show on my Ledger?
Open Ledger Live, navigate to My Ledger, and install the Sia app. Sia is listed in Ledger's app catalogue — no side-loading required. If the app is installed but Sia Wallet doesn't detect the device, unlock the Ledger, open the Sia app on the device itself, and click Refresh in Sia Wallet's hardware wallet screen.
Will Trezor be supported?
Trezor support is on the post-v2.12.0 roadmap pending the Trezor firmware's Sia integration. A community-maintained fork has Trezor support in testing. The Sia Wallet team tracks the upstream firmware PR — when it lands, Trezor support ships in the next quarterly release.
Mobile
Is there a Sia Wallet for Android?
Native Sia Wallet for Android ships within 90 days of the desktop v2.12.0 launch. The Android app is lite-mode only (no blockchain download on phones), requires Android fingerprint or PIN on every send, and pairs with your desktop wallet via QR code. Distribution via Google Play plus a side-loadable APK.
Is there a Sia Wallet for iOS?
Native Sia Wallet for iOS ships within 90 days of the desktop v2.12.0 launch. The iOS app is lite-mode only, requires Face ID or Touch ID on every send, and pairs with desktop via QR code. Distribution via the Apple App Store. TestFlight betas will be announced on the Sia Wallet social channels in the run-up to release.
Will the mobile app support Ledger?
Ledger Nano X supports Bluetooth, and Ledger mobile signing is on the roadmap for Q3 after the mobile wallet launch. Nano S is USB-only and will not support mobile. In the interim, mobile users can operate in watch-only mode and sign transactions on their desktop with a paired Ledger.
Recovery and passwords
I forgot my Sia Wallet password — can I reset it?
Not directly. Sia Wallet is non-custodial, which means there is no central 'reset password' service. If you have your 12-word seed, you can restore your wallet with a new password: install Sia Wallet on any device, choose 'Restore from seed,' enter your 12 words in order, and set a new password. Your full balance reappears.
I lost my seed — can Sia Wallet support recover my coins?
No. Sia Wallet cannot recover a lost seed. The team does not hold your keys, does not have access to your wallet file, and cannot derive your seed from anything. This is the trade-off for full self-custody. The only recovery path is the 12-word seed you backed up during setup. Back up seeds in two physical locations before funding any wallet.
How do I restore a Sia Wallet from my seed?
Install Sia Wallet. On first launch, choose 'Restore or migrate.' Pick '12-word BIP39 seed' (or '28-word legacy seed' if coming from Sia-UI). Enter the words in order. Set a new password. Your wallet rebuilds in a few seconds and your full balance is visible. The recovery flow never transmits your seed — the process is entirely local.
Sync and errors
Sia Wallet is not syncing — what do I do?
Most sync issues resolve with: 1) confirm your system clock is correct (NTP-synced), 2) check your internet connection, 3) restart the wallet, 4) if still stuck after five minutes, toggle between lite mode and full-node mode in Advanced Settings. If the problem persists, open the logs from Help → Show Logs and report it via siawallet.tech with the relevant error lines.
Why is my balance different from siascan.com?
Balance differences usually mean your wallet hasn't finished syncing the latest block. Open Sia Wallet, check the sync indicator in the footer, and wait for it to reach 'Synced.' If the difference persists after sync completes, verify you're checking the correct address on siascan.com — Sia Wallet generates multiple addresses per wallet by default.
Fees, price, and exchanges
How much does a Sia transaction cost?
Sia fees scale with transaction size and current network demand. Sia Wallet shows three fee options before every send: Fast (next block), Standard (about 10 blocks), Economy (may take longer). Each shows the SC cost and the USD equivalent. Typical Standard fees are under 0.001 SC — currently a fraction of a US cent.
Where can I buy Siacoin?
Siacoin is listed on 60+ exchanges. The Exchange page on this site lists current venues with real-time price data. Typical large-exchange options include KuCoin, Gate.io, and MEXC. Always verify Siacoin is not in maintenance mode on the exchange before sending coins to or from it.
What is the Siacoin price today?
Live Siacoin price and SC-to-USD calculator are on the Exchange page. Market data is pulled from CoinGecko's public API. Sia Wallet does not offer price predictions — Siacoin is a utility token used to pay for decentralised storage, not a speculative instrument, and predicting its price is outside what this project does.
Is Siacoin a good investment?
This project is a wallet. We don't give investment advice. Siacoin is a utility token for paying hosts on the decentralised Sia storage network — its value is driven by demand for that storage. If you're researching Siacoin as an investment, read The Sia Foundation's State of Sia reports on sia.tech and Messari's project profile, and form your own view.
The Siacoin network
Is Siacoin still active in 2026?
Yes. The Sia v2 hardfork activated on June 6, 2025 at block 526,000. The v2 Final Cut finalised the network on December 2, 2025 at block 552,100. The Sia Foundation is a US-registered 501(c)(3) non-profit actively developing walletd, renterd, and hostd, with commits as recent as April 2026. Siacoin trades on 60+ exchanges with approximately 56 billion SC in circulation.
Does Trust Wallet support Siacoin?
No. Trust Wallet does not currently support Siacoin. Siacoin is not an ERC-20 token and runs on its own blockchain — most multi-chain wallets that focus on Ethereum-family assets do not integrate it. To hold Siacoin non-custodially, use Sia Wallet, walletd, or the SiaCentral web wallet. Ledger Nano with the Sia app is the hardware-wallet option.
Is the Atomic Wallet still safe for Siacoin?
Atomic Wallet had a security incident in June 2023. It continues to operate and supports Siacoin among many other assets. Users comparing wallets should weigh Atomic's multi-coin convenience against Sia-native features in Sia Wallet (legacy seed migration, Siafund support, native Ledger without browser flags). This is a personal call — both wallets have public track records.
