Status: retired · 2024
Sia UI Wallet was retired in 2024.
Sia-UI no longer transacts on the post-v2 Sia network. Your seed and your coins are safe — here's how to move them to Sia Wallet in one flow.
What happened to Sia-UI
Sia-UI was the official desktop wallet for Siacoin from 2015 through 2024. It was a single combined application that bundled the wallet, the renter (storage client), and the host (storage provider) into one binary. In 2024, The Sia Foundation split that stack into three focused programs — renterd (renting), hostd (hosting), and walletd (the wallet) — and Sia-UI was deprecated.
On June 6, 2025, the Sia v2 hardfork activated. The network changed its address format and transaction structure. Sia-UI predates v2 and was never updated to support it, so it can no longer broadcast a valid transaction on mainnet. Balances still display, but sends fail.
If you still have a Sia-UI installation on disk, do NOT panic-uninstall it. Your 28 or 29-word seed phrase is the only thing that matters for recovery, and it works the same in any post-v2 wallet that supports legacy import.

What to use instead of Sia-UI
Sia Wallet is the consumer-grade successor. It is an MIT-licensed fork of walletd — the same wallet engine The Sia Foundation maintains — wrapped in a guided UI with a four-step first-run wizard, native Ledger Nano S/X support, and a built-in legacy seed migration assistant that handles 28 and 29-word Sia-UI seeds in one flow.
Sia Wallet runs natively on Windows 10+, macOS 11+, and modern x86_64 Linux. Mobile (iOS and Android) is on the post-v2.12.0 roadmap. The same 12-word BIP39 seed you generate during migration works across every Sia Wallet build, so you only do this once.
Migrate from Sia-UI in 5 steps
Locate your Sia-UI seed
Open your existing Sia-UI installation and copy the 28 or 29-word seed phrase from Wallet → View Seed. If you've lost access to the app but still have the seed written down, that's all you need.
Download Sia Wallet
Get Sia Wallet for Windows, macOS, or Linux from the official download page. The installer is signed and the open source.
Choose 'Import legacy Sia-UI seed' in the wizard
On first run, pick the migration path. Paste your 28 or 29-word seed; Sia Wallet derives your old addresses and shows your full balance.
Generate a new 12-word BIP39 seed
Sia Wallet creates a new modern seed and asks you to write it down (twice). This is your future recovery phrase — store it offline.
Move your funds in one transaction
The assistant builds a single 'sweep' transaction that sends the full balance from your legacy addresses to your new BIP39 wallet. You sign once, pay one network fee, and you're done.
Sia UI Wallet — quick answers
Is there a 'Sia UI download' link that still works?
The legacy Sia-UI binaries are still archived on the Sia Foundation's official download page, but installing them is not recommended: the wallet cannot transact on the post-v2 network. Treat it as read-only forensic access at most. For any active use, install Sia Wallet.
Will Sia-UI ever be updated to support v2?
No. The Sia Foundation officially deprecated the combined Sia-UI app when it split the stack in 2024. The future of the wallet engine lives in walletd, and the consumer experience lives in Sia Wallet (this project).
I have a 12-word seed from Sia-UI. Is that the same as BIP39?
If your Sia-UI wallet shows a 12-word seed, you likely already migrated at some point or used a non-standard build. Standard Sia-UI used 28 or 29-word seeds. Either way, Sia Wallet's import flow detects the format and handles it.
Are my funds safe while I take time to migrate?
Yes. Your coins live on the Sia blockchain, not in the wallet software. Whoever holds the seed controls the coins. As long as your 28 or 29-word seed phrase is safe and offline, you can migrate at any time.
Move on from Sia-UI in under 10 minutes.
Download Sia Wallet, paste your legacy seed, sweep your funds. Done.
